Undo a sent Gmail message
Moments after clicking the “send” button , “Oh crap! I was not supposed to send this email to him ” . Have you ever felt this way ?.
If you email rants to your ex or some blistering message supposed to be about your cunning boss is accidentally sent to your boss. With normal e-mail systems there’s nothing much you can do about it. But at least with Gmail, I can help you out.
The ability to “undo” a email on Google Mail has only been know to few people. You have upto 30 seconds to take back an unfortunate e-mail.
In real, this feature doesn’t actually undo an e-mail, it simply holds your message for 30 seconds before its dispatched, just in case you change your mind. Earlier , you had to be super-quick to use it, as it only allowed five seconds to take a message back. But from the last few months 30 – second option has been added.
Enabling this feature is a bit complication if you’re not familiar with Google Labs, the place where the company allow the users to experiment with Gmail and other Google projects. But it’s worth noting it down.
Here’s how you can avoid instant e-mail remorse.
1. Log in to Gmail and go to Google Labs.
2. Scroll down until you see a option “Undo Send.” Click “enable” and the feature is now on.
3. Click the “Save Changes” button.
5. Now, go back to the main Gmail page and click “Settings” in the top right corner.
6. Scroll down to “Undo Send” — it should be right above “My Picture.” Your default should be set to 10 seconds. But you can use the drop-down bar to stretch that to 30 seconds.
7. hit “Save Changes.”
8. To undo an email, just look for the box at the top of the screen that will have the words “Your message has been sent.” After that, you should see the “Undo” option. Click that and you’ll be sent back to the e-mail’s draft form, where you’ll have 30 seconds to edit or delete it before it goes out.
